Retirement is complicated. Taxes? Even more so…

The questions never seem to end:
  • How can I make the most with my existing money and pay the least amount of taxes?
  • What’s in our best interest for a tax-smart retirement income from our assets?
  • How soon can I retire and still have a fun, comfortable lifestyle?
  • How do I balance living well in my retirement and planning my estate?
  • Where can I find a financial planner instead of a product salesman?

Phil Putney, CPA/PFS

Originally a CPA, Phil’s clients started asking him to help them plan their finances in addition to filing their taxes.

The rest is history.

Phil has been in the financial services industry for over 30 years, both as a CPA/PFS and as an Investment Advisor. Phil has dedicated his career to helping his clients create sound financial strategies that are designed to provide confidence and peace of mind in retirement.

Phil’s mission is to help retirees and soon-to-be-retirees take control of their financial future and make the best decisions possible for them and their loved ones. As Phil is often heard saying “if you don’t have a plan, then whose plan are you following? The IRS’s? The Social Security Administration?”

Phil’s background and education as a CPA with a Masters in Taxation, his designation as a Personal Financial Specialist and Investment Advisor allow him to create comprehensive financial strategies that maximize your income, reduce your taxes, and grow your assets while reducing market volatility.

Phil and his wife Debi are avid campers, spending the summer months enjoying the time away in their fifth wheel camper along with their dog Bailey and cat Casey.

Frequently Asked Questions

All financial planners are not created equal. Licensed CPAs have a Fiduciary Standard and have long been considered the standard for financial knowledge, objectivity and integrity, prepared to handle the most demanding financial situations. A Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) credential can only be earned by CPAs, and it requires additional education, real-world experience and extensive knowledge to pass a rigorous exam.

A CPA/PFS has an unparalleled understanding of how to help clients benefit from today’s complex decisions about taxes, retirement, estate planning, investments and insurance. Anyone planning their financial future will sleep better knowing their plan is CPA Strong.

We are normally available Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 6:00 or by appointment.

Ninety-one percent of the people who come in to visit with us already have a financial representative. Many times that representative is not a retirement planning specialist, and more often than not, that person works for a particular company rather than for the client. Most times they do not work under a Fiduciary Standard. In contrast, Phil does have to meet the Fiduciary Standard. This means that Phil must put his client’s best interest first.

Our portfolios have a plan for success instead of a hope and a prayer.

No. Phil Putney CPA/PFS started his management firm because he believes that each investor is unique and no single investment company is right for everyone. However, AFS Wealth Management’s whole wealth management system is built on a foundation of Low Risk, Low Volatility investments. Our clients cannot afford to go backwards.
